The magic of Spiced Hermits.

We were planning on making cookies on Friday, but I came across one of my most favorite fall cookie recipes and knew I had to make them today. I came across it last year in my Family Fun magazine. It is wonderful! I had never seen a recipe like it. It is such a great recipe because it is filled with spices, nuts and Craisins . It makes for a perfect cookie that allows little hands to help and take turns.

Being in the kitchen with my girls brings back so many special memories of being in the kitchen with my mom when I was growing up. I committed a fall faux paus and turned on some Christmas music, while we were baking. The girls had fun measuring spices and getting to smell them. Each on is so unique. Some they liked very much and other not so much. After most of the ingredience you have to mix it for about a minute. It made it easy to share the mixer. It may sound silly, but I just had such a loving feeling for my girls and I think they did for each other as well as we did this simple thing together. Moments like this are magic and matter so much more than I sometimes think they do.

The cookies were delicious and probably one of the things that made it so fun and special for me is that each of us were wearing matching aprons that were giving to us by my dear friend Jody right before we moved. It was such a sweet gift that I treasure. Jody and I served in the Primary Presidency together and she was like my ward mom. She truly is an incredible woman, she raised six children and all while they were growing up she had to take them to church by herself. I am so grateful for the things I learned from her. If I had to name one thing it would be this, In every moment and sitution we can find something to be happy about or to be grateful for. Today I am feeling especially grateful for each life that has touched mine for good.

  2. Sounds yummy! And actually, the girls are patiently waiting to make our favorite fall cookie recipe-pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. We make them for Chase for the deer hunt every year, and he leaves tonight.

  3. I agree with Jess...post the recipe! I can't wait to be out there by you guys...I know that I say that every time I talk to you, but I enjoy your company. I can just see you standing on a chair by your mom helping with the ingredients...I hope that I adopt the habit of letting my kids help me cook. (I have to start cooking for that to happen though, :D). Thanks for sharing your special moments!

  5. Sounds fun! You should definitely post the recipe, and I don't know if you know, but I changed my blog to toddandmegancook.blogspot.com instead of the megandtoddcook one because it was just too darn confusing for everyone! See ya Saturday, or actually maybe tomorrow...your mom is watching Chloe for me if I have to go in to the baby factory...we will see, I am on call, hopefully no one calls in sick!!!

  7. Those cookies sound great, I'd love to get the recipe too! Some of my favorite memories growing up are of cooking with my mom. You're so right! The simple things in life are really so often among the most fulfilling.

  8. Hey, by the way, Shaun is totally our photography man. I think he's really talented at it. =) I think we put all the pictures together in keynote formatted how we want (keynote is like powerpoint) on a black background--and then saved it as a JPEG and cropped it, and then it worked just like a picture. I think you could definitely put them all together and print it into an 11x17--depending on what programs you have, but it would definitely work. Make sure the page size is what you want and just save as a jpeg. If you had trouble with it or don't have a program that works well you could email me the pics and I'd be happy to put them together--I'm no pro, but I'd have fun pretending =)
